If you think Norfolk & Holmes is just an ordinary estate agent who has found its niche exploiting the nation's stock of empty property, you'd be slightly wrong.  We are in fact part of a BBC Three production in which Norfolk & Holmes (not a trading estate agent) has been created to highlight the housing crisis in the U.K.

Prices are so out of control that many first time buyers will never have a first time. There is an enormous shortfall in social housing while squalid living conditions normally associated with the third world are not uncommon. To add insult to injury, there are an estimated 800,000 properties lying empty across the U.K.

Rather than using tax payers' money to demolish the country's dwindling social housing stock -  to make way for privately-built 'affordable' housing developments  that are often beyond the reach of the people they are aimed at - shouldn't the government be doing more to bring those empty properties back into use?

In a nation where the poorest and most vulnerable have become the ultimate victims of our country's greedy obsession with property, we are looking to you, the audience, to email us your stories.

We want to hear from first time buyers whose perfectly good budget will only buy them a small garage, and struggling families on council house waiting lists who have been waiting so long they have lost all hope.   Tell us about your struggle. 

What sort of property do you need?

Take a photo of any houses / flats in your area that have been empty for more than 6 months and send them in.  Whenever possible we will take your issues to the politicians and ask them what they are going to do about it.
